About Me.

While starting to get this blog off the ground, I realized that some of you reading have no idea who I am and what I am about.

My name is Stephanie and I am a going-on-24-years-old "millennial" that is looking for a way to change the world...or (more realistically) help educate others (maybe you!) on contributing to a healthier planet by way of zero-waste.

A couple things I like: Traveling. Scary movies. Hiking. Puppies. Singing. Mason jars. Thrifting.

I have started Project: Zero over the past few months by following the guidelines below, allowing me to sift my existing life through a zero-waste filter.

My Personal Guidelines of Sustainability

  • Use it up first: Changing your lifestyle doesn't happen overnight, which means you're going to feel like you are in possession of a few things that may no longer fit your new perspective. It is more wasteful to just toss these items away in an attempt to purge. I have found that using products until empty or no longer functional (then disposing of properly) or donating to thrift stores is a great way to give these items a second life.
  • Buying and the 5 W's: I am certainly a believer that sometimes you need what you want, but I have become more conscious about the answers to these 5 W's when purchasing:
    • Who is it benefitting?
    • What I am buying?
    • When will I use it?
    • Where is it coming from?
    • and Why do I really need it?
  • If you're doing your best, that's okay: Our society is programmed with a wasteful regimen that doesn't make it easy when trying to adjust your lifestyle to eliminate unnecessary waste from your personal environmental footprint. When I encounter a situation that forces me to face waste head on, I use this as an opportunity to recognize where I can be prepared in the future to create an environmentally friendlier experience.
